Featured artist: Double M – Work of art

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Double M from Nairobi to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Double M! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Double M: I decided I would become an artist when my deskmate heard me rapping to myself and he was like you have to spit for us, repeat the same song so we can hear you once more, which i did and then they made me rap to everyone else in the school.Since then I've been writing and now I'm slowly releasing my music out to the world.

You can do it,believe in yourself coz you are very talented, stop being ordinary.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I'm the sh*t, call me Eddie Murphy.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I've just released a song called back and forth,on the 31st of October 2018 and I've got another one coming in a couple of weeks.
Right now I'm working on a mixtape, due to be released at the start of next year God willing.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would sign but the deal would be subject to a lot of questions in terms of what benefits I'm I going to get, how I'm I going to grow as an artist when in that label, can I work with other artists outside the label without all the formalities and restrictions, are the other artists in that label happy?
These are the questions I would ask myself and ask of the label.

Any last words?

I'd like to shoutout my family, everyone who's been supporting me,my mentor Jayrealmike,my brother JP, Kuky, Saida, Sonnie,Carolyn, Alberto to name a few and to my city Nairobi, where I'm from.
