Featured artist: JRood – They ain’t ready for the heat!
As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist JRood from Syracuse to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, JRood! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?
JRood: I’ve always been around music since I was little. Growing up I always wrote poems and rhymes. It wasn’t until I was about 18 that I really started getting into recording hip hop music. I went to a buddies house and brought my composition notebook and it was over from there.
“Get yourself registered.” My boy martino told me to get registered with a performance rights organization to earn my royalties and that was by far the best advice I’ve gotten as a new artist
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I do a lot of open mics and live performances in CNY.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
Steady burning up the trees only smokin on the heat
