Featured artist: Reubz – Started from the bottom

As part of our ongoing “Rap’s New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Reubz from Cape Town to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Reubz! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Reubz: Without knowing it, music has always been a part of my life. Specifically rapping was always common to me growing up in the hood and coming from a disadvantaged background. I always wanted to motivate people and I believe I can cook up a lot of motivating joints. I basically want to run this game. Many rappers turned into trappers. I'm here o set the record straight because I'll always be a rapper.

The best advice I got was from my producer. He made me see rap deeply from my own point of view. And he always backs me to not hold back on my lines.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, I'm working on that. This year, I want at least 2 performances. For my new track coming out now on the 10th of this month and top gadaffi coming out on the 16th of December.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Many tets prevail so I stand my ground no matter the pain, I gain

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

A single titled "Rosa ree" . Its. a rap song describing the character of Rosa ree. A Tanzanian female rapper that dedicated her life to the grind to survive hunger. She motivated me to become a better man as to what it really takes to be a hard worker and the hustler that I am.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes I would. The pros is obviously for 1 doing something that I love and actually earning from it, so then it will just be about being consistent and improving daily on my game.

Any last words?

Shout out to Cape Hustletown. That's my city right there. Before I pop or anything like that. I want to be running my town already, being not just a plug in music, but in my academics and sport as well.

Where can people follow you to stay up-to-date?

Reubz: @dahustlareubz (that's my rap page)

Thank you for your time. We wish you and your career the success it deserves.
