Featured artist: Pino Blanco – Lyrical Assault Verbal Battery 1st Degree

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Pino Blanco from Detroit MI. to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Pino Blanco! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Pino Blanco: Being from NY and an 80’s baby, MC’s were on every corner, staircase, park, and stoop. Verbal chess with poetry, harmony from caos. I fell in love. Eric B and Rakim, The Adventures of Slick Rick, LL Cool J. The ability to Storytell then some hard battle rap, to spittn’ game at that beautiful around the way girl in teenage love in the backseat of a Jeep cause Brenda got a big Olé butt and I need love after a children’s story and meeting Mona Lisa. Master of Cerimony, the title says it all.

Are you an artist or a business man? Are you selling entertainment or are you creating the soundtrack for memories, that will never be forgotten? Hearing a song can bring overwhelming joy, pain, laughs, or tears. As an artist you’re a part of lives of firsts and lasts, first love and heartbreak, the start of a life as a baby is born and part of a death. Your song can remind people of memories and the life they’re living. Create art with passion and emotion. Not for a check and material things. An MC is a poet a painter. Be an artist not a fad or gimmick playing a role.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I’m an MC so I can turn the waiting area at the DMV a concert. I’ve performed on stages and battled on corners. No matter what the setting I live to see people react to my art, to see a group of strangers fall into a trance, from metaphors, wordplay, punchlines, and stories. It’s the most amazing feeling no matter the size of the audience. I feed off of the energy they provide. I never wanted to be a star just a respected MC and authentic artist.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Bring led showers like the Flint Water Crisis, blowing up spots like ISIS, shine brighter then mine you iceless, Pino spittn’ off top PRICELESS!

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I haven’t done any major projects lately. Mainly mixtapes and shows. I love freestyling it’s a rush and an art form, it’s like chess with wordplay and it’s something you can’t fake. Currently I’m working on my biggest project, it’s focused on HipHop on beats, rhymes, energy and the art of MC’ing. Dope beats tailored made, catchy hooks and viscous lyrics, stories some true some cinematic. It’s gonna bevraw skilled MC’s and producers that put emotion, passion, love, pain, tears and screams followed by dancing and laughing. Real HipHop.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

If the major was started and built by HipHop artist and HipHop People, that understand where the movement came from and the cultures that make it a special process a true Artform. Yes!
A major that has executives with business and marketing degrees that hire techies to search the web for gimmicks and fads, so they can create an image. I’d rather be a local mixtape MC, doing what I love, and creating memories with passion and beats and rhymes. That’s success and art and HipHop to me. Keep your advances, and STAR image created by a marketing Executive and the internet that don’t have 1 artistic, talented bone in their bodies sensor your work your ideas your talent silence your story. No thank you I’d rather punch a clock or hustle then sacrifice my soul my love my passion to a check.

Any last words?

The raising the bar Detroit Family, my brother the mastermind Marco Polo Italiano, my Flint Stone Buck Town Fam reppn’ Flint MI. Nothing but pride born a king in the Kings Borough Brooklyn, and the fifth borough that made me a soldier Staten Island aka Staten Italy. A huge shoutout to the original the vintage Don JoJo Pellegrino, from the south Shore to the North Shore GK To Killa-Hill. He was the first to ever see me as an MC and taught me about the game. Always like big brother to me PELLEVISION
