Golden Era state of Mind

Featured artist: Jay Greene – Golden Era state of Mind

As part of our ongoing “Rap’s New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Jay Greene from Austin to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Jay Greene! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Jay Greene: The first time I heard Kool Mo Dee I knew I wanted to rap. “How you like me now” was the first song I heard from him but his album “Knowledge is King” was the first tape I owned. Definitely hearing Kool Mo Dee was what lit that fuse for me.

Make the music you want to hear, not the music they want to hear.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I would love to do shows, but I haven’t had the opportunity to get on anyone’s stage right now.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

“I hear y’all music and I’m not amused, the only thing dope is the drugs that you use/

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I just recently released a short project called “Back 2 Rap”, which is available everywhere. As far as new material, I’m constantly writing new material.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

It all depends. This new generation has shown me that record labels aren’t necessary but I still feel a big machine could still serve a purpose. It’s all about negotiating a deal that works for both parties.

Any last words?

What to Austin Texas! I’m not originally from there but I love the city and it’s my launching pad. What up to my folks in El Paso Texas, Demitrius Parks, Domyay, G.L. And my man Promise. Star city studio in El Paso is where I recorded the album so big shout out to them and David Mendoza.

Where can people follow you to stay up-to-date?
