1050s Very Own Superstar

Featured artist: Yung Pro$pect – 1050s Very Own Superstar

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Yung Pro$pect from Middelburg to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Yung Pro$pect! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Yung Pro$pect: I felt like everything was against me but the music. First time I freestyled with one of my Buddy's I everybody loved it. It was the most fulfilling thing to do for me, like lightening someone's mood from day to day stories, it really is a beautiful thing. Cause since I finished school, I couldn't get bursaries for university, got a job and I still wasn't happy but this music helped me through all that, so I decided why not do something that'll help me get through situations and help others as well

Don't be afraid to experiment. I feel like alot of artists these days feel like they have one particular sound, type or whatever they started with so that they can keep they're original fans which leads to frustration for the artists because he feels stagnant and he doesn't feel like he's exploring his creative process enough and he's not growing, well I was told to do whatever the heck I want, as long as its good music I will be alright

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Of course, I perform whenever I'm given the chance as long as I feel like the people who want me on stage want the best for me and are not using me to grow they're brand without even taking care of me while I'm up there cause sometimes the sound be so f***** up… And they beg you to perform cause they got a cheque coming you feel.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I don't like casinos ni*** I'm a bigger deal

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I just recently released my first official Mixtape titled One Hell Of A KiD which is doing great in terms of love and digits, My bro Ceaa dropping his EP Called Only One I'm on there too and yeah, I'm promoting that for now and on the 9th of November I've got a single coming out… Then after that it's back to studio for me.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes probably for a distribution deal. The disadvantages of labels is that alot of people are involved in the setup so which means more ways the divideds get split.. So for me it would be easier cause I do everything by myself. The advantage is the management of a label. They do everything while you focus on the end goal which is making music

Any last words?

Yeah shout-out to my label Loud Noise Entertainment, I'm repping my bro's there REY G DUTCHES, CEEA, DETROYT Gee and my family man. Thank you.
