The Mind of 1k

Featured artist: Mikey1k – The Mind of 1k

As part of our ongoing “Rap’s New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Mikey1k from Tyler to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Mikey1k! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Mikey1k: When I was younger my dad and my uncles use to have a studio, in the shed, in our backyard and I would always go back there to see what they were up to so you can say I was inspired by it and grew up around music.

Keep Grinding! All the Hardwork You’re Putting in Will Payoff in the End!

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes I’ve Played Live Shows Before in Dallas and in my Hometown of Tyler, Tx.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I’m the Realest You Can Put Me to the Test Hoe,
You Already Know I’m Better Than the Rest Though,
Cause All These Other Niggas Fake Like On Crip I’m a Blood From the Nawf on the West Bro!

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I’m Currently Working on a Collab Album With My Brother “Scoop” Which is Set to Release on Friday, December 7th. I’m Also Working on My First Solo Album Called “Mind of 1k” Which is Set to Drop in Mid February.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

In All Honesty, Yes I Would but In my Opinion I Think It’s Best to be an Independent Artist in This Day in Age. You Have People That Are Blowing Up and Starting Their Own Record Labels and Signing Their Own Artist and They Don’t Have to Answer to Anyone Except Themselves. You Have More Freedom as an Independent Artist Rather Than Signing With a Major Label but It’s Not All Bad.

Any last words?

I Wanna Give a Shoutout to All My Fans &. Artists Back Home in East Texas. Shoutout Scoop, Nicon, Savage6, Rose Mob, Trapboy Ponn, Dre KND, Cicoee P, My Producers Ace The Great &. Orlando! Hold It Down!

Where can people follow you to stay up-to-date?
