As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artists HollyHood Jay & Qool B4 12elve as Tha Q from South and North side Queens New York to talk about their recent music, their upcoming projects, their career advice and their overall experiences being in the music industry and they did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, HollyHood Jay & Qool B4 12elve as Tha Q! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

HollyHood Jay & Qool B4 12elve as Tha Q: Since a kid, Jay and I loved the feeling hip hop, R&B, Pop and all these other amazing genres give the listener. Him being from the NorthSide and me from the SouthSide, we both had one thing in common. Both raised by single mothers, a lot of the times
Hot 97 and Power 105 took the place of our parents. We just wanna give the city a feeling.

The best advice was, the music game is like High School. If your not the guy at the moment, keep working on being you, then you’ll find and master your own lane. They’ll catch on in do time.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

We do lots of live performances. Mostly at clubs and lounges or anywhere the Djs bring us out to.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

They know that we them hitters, yet when it come our style this niggas are in Denial like they live in Egyptian rivers.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

We’re now working on our Self titled “Tha Q” E.P. A little a years ago we dropped Our first Mixtape called Fresh Collection with a couple of other artist we were associated with at the time. This project with be our first official Group Project.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I’m not too big on Signing a to a Major unless they’re willing to give us an opportunity to put out some of the amazing talent that call the Sout and North home. I do see the benefits of a major, but it’s all about your negotiating skills. If you have mom and your just a starving artist, I think independents may be what’s best for your career in the beginning.

Any last words?
