Featured artist: c.y. the ruler – breath in the lungs of the carolinas

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist c.y. the ruler from Rockingham to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, c.y. the ruler! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

c.y. the ruler: i decided to become an artist at the age of sixteen. at first it was for the glory , but as i grew older and made children the money became the biggest reason. i always loved music i was raised in the era of jeezy, t.i., pimp c etc. i looked up to all of them

the best advice given to me as an artist was to do it yourself.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

i used to give concerts but i slowed down to build up more material.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

currently im working on an album that will be produced by C2beatz out of the carolinas. together c2beatz and i are building a sound that will set us apart from all the mainstream thats going on.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

i would never sign with a major label, because the only one who owns me is god. only thing i would consider is a distribution deal. distribution is the only pro that is considered when it comes to a major for me

Any last words?

shoutout to both of my producers st.lawrence and c2beatz. To all my children who motivate me to go hard everyday. To my biggest fan my sister cassy who introduced me to this music shit. check me out on spotify "c.y. the ruler"
