Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, KGNICE! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

KGNICE: I fell in love with Hip Hop and everything it stands for at an early age. It had to be Nas verse at the Main Source, his delivery, attitude and confidence caught me instantly. Just the wisdom and style that these rappers had was new to me but felt like home. Living in a society where you have to be something that you’re not can formulate mental issues. In the Hip Hop culture you can express yourself without any type of judgement. That’s when I wanted to aspire to be an artist.

The best advice given to me, multiple times actually was ” To be myself.”

KGNICE

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes I’d performed at various venues.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

You

KGNICE

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I’d just released my debut album, Limerence. It’s out now on all streaming sites. You can also find it at sophenomenalent.com/limerence. I’m working on new material as we speak.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I think any artist would say yes but nowadays there would be some form of hesitation. Due to the fact that the internet is great tool for success. More artist are educating themselves and want to minimize the middle man. Nonetheless a contract with a major label would appear like the easy step but as long as everything in the backend is solid.

Yes, I have opened for a few major artists in the past and have performed at quite a few after hours spots throughout North Carolina.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Vernon Garrett

Recently released #Hallelujah, #MVP, TFTH (Tales From the Hood) ans #DaveEast (video drops in November). Also have several upcoming projects including "Somebody Lied" and "Do Real Things"

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Would possibly sign if the paperwork and math adds up. The pros of being signed would be the use of a bigger budget, more powerful outlets and connections. The cons would be legal obligation to company who does not have your best interest at heart, the possible loss of creative control and the revenue pie being cut with you possibly getting the smaller piece.

Any last words?

Would like to send a shoutout to God, first and foremost! To my kids, family and for all those that have supported me in the past and present. Would also like to send some luv to my peoples in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and in Pitt Co., NC…

I'm releasing my new album Badman with 15 tracks in a couple of weeks. I also released Badaman with 10 tracks at the start of this year.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would if they let me decide how I want to put my music out. It would be easier to work with Dizzee Rascal & Eminem but they take most the money so the more you make the more they take.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Slick L Fresh! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Slick L Fresh: I was listening to the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent, Tupac, Biggie, Wu Tang Clan, NWA ect. Then next thing I know I fell in love with music and decided to try writing lyrics so I started from a young age but didn't get serious until I was 22 as at that age music saved me!

Always keep it real, talk about things you don't know about the listeners will turn on you!

Slick L Fresh

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

No, I'm underground and proud to be underground. Personally I think it's better to run your own record company then to sign up to a major label, depends on the type of artist you are, me, on the other hand like my freedom.

Any last words?

Hell yeah I want to give a massive shout out to my Illumni family, 25 To Life Records, Slickage Records, Soljaz Stampede, Momma T, Nick Knox, Johnny Sprenz, Ashby, Tekoa Lion, Shea Barz, Lady Rush, Global Family, Demo, Abstain Records also my mum and partner too… Damn to everyone who has supported me, sorry if I've missed anyone!

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Feeno GoHard! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Feeno GoHard: I became an artist naturally off being musically inclined. I shit my first music video in 2016 when I was 18 years old & it’s been lit ever since !

The best advice I ever recieced was to never stop! You may never know who is watching out for you. You mate never know how close you are! Never slack! Always try to do it the best you can!

Feeno GoHard

Yes I’ve done shows & ive performed love in front of people ! Good feeling.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Feeno GoHard

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Currently I’m not working in any projects but I’ve been realising good content lately as far as singles!

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would sign contract ! The pros of signing ( if you actually make good music & have a fab base of somewhat) is that you’re basically gonna keep getting bigger & bigger. Whichever label you’d sign to would boost your career of course. The cons are that you don’t own your own music. You’re signed & you have to make music to some else’s expectations & you can’t really be free with your own ideas I feel. It’s full of cons especially if you don’t know what how to go about business!

Any last words?

Yes indeed! I gotta shout out TruBoiDaSinger , Kappa Duke & the rest of the # GangOnDaWay movement! We headed for the top!

I would just for the business side of things just to know more and grow more in the business. The money and traps that come with it I’m not all trilled about it but you have to make the best out of what your doing period. Pros to it is that you get the advance you get to move around and definitely get the exposure that you need to stay relevant. But the Cons are if you don’t know anything about the business your going to get screwed even if you only know a little bit there’s loop holes in contracts it’s a dirty game but hey you got to know how to get yours and stand tall to stop the con side of things just get a lawyer that you can trust

The birth of a legend from New Jersey

Featured artist: Grim – The birth of a legend from New Jersey

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Grim from Long Branch to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Grim! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Grim: After making it a sport to memorize my favorite rappers songs I decided to embark on my own journey to let my voice be heard and try to do my part to be the change i want to see in the industry.

The best advice i ever received was to treat my music and my brand as a business. I had to learn that just putting songs on Soundcloud wasn't enough. I had to tell my story, people aren't just concerned with the art anymore, they want to know everything about the artist. So you must be completely open with your fans, treat them as family.

Grim

What about concerts? Do you play live?

i have yet to play live. But plan to in the near future.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

Greatness Relies In Mindset….GRIM

Grim

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I currently have two mixtapes and a number of singles out already. I am currently working on about eight singles which include about four features and I am working on my debut album to drop sometime in January.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes, only for the opportunities that can be offered to me i.e bigger features, better videos etc. But not for that cash advance, remember juice is temporary, the sauce is forever. Build your brand on your own so that the labels are begging you, not the other way around.

Any last words?

I would like to shout out Asbury Park, NJ. A great city with a thriving culture. I would also like to thank the people who have been with me since day one, my mother and best friend Dan. And my late father, R.I.P

He dares to be different!

Featured artist: Basta Hitz – He dares to be different!

As part of our ongoing “Raps New Generation” series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist Basta Hitz from Amsterdam to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint…

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Basta Hitz! Let’s go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

Basta Hitz: I always loved music from an early age.
I always knew music was what i wanted to make.
Music is a language that speaks for itself, even though sometimes music is made in a language you don't speak you can still hear the emotion of the song and can touch your heart. I wanted to become an artist that could speak to someone's heart even when I make music in a other language.

What doesn't challenge you, isn't worth working on.

Basta Hitz

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, i do it has been a while but i have some things planned for February 2019. I currently aren't doing any shows because i'm working on new material.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

These ain't bars, these are memory lines.

Basta Hitz

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I'm currently working on a new EP which i want to release in December 2018. This year i have released 2 albums and several singles. My album ''The Amsterdam King'' has been streamed a lot on Spotify and Itunes.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes but only under the right circumstances. I think every artist would like to sign a contract and make a lot of money with a big label. Key to the game for me is that I maintain to have my own identity, I want to make what I want to make and don't want to be forced in making the type of music the label wants me to make. I think a lot of labels tell artists whatever they need to make because it sells a lot but I want to be different from others and not be just another rapper.

Any last words?

Shout out to my team, my engineer Spata Envy, Envy Music Group, and Royal Muzik Group. One love.
