Getting To Know Kelson James

Featured artist: Kelson James – Getting To Know Kelson James

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Kelson James.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Kelson James: I honestly don't remember how I decided to become an artist. The arts always attracted me throughout my whole life. But what got me into rap was having drinks with my brother, Dustin Bird, and just rhyming all the time. He is a big influence to why I keep at it.

The easiest thing to do is quit when the going gets tough.. But history is never written by quitters.

Kelson James

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I do perform live, mostly at Smoked Out Battles AB (check their battles out on YouTube). I also open for artists I get asked to. Mostly just local events in my city.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I'm a product of hell like thermite, I pack more heat! When our worlds trade.. You'll collapse into ash in these streets

Kelson James

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I'm currently working on a lot… but nothing will be revealed until it's complete. I have a few battles that have been released on Smoked Out Battles YouTube channel if you wanna go check them out.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would not sign a contract. No deal is worth giving up my freedom and independence.

Any last words?

I'd like to give a shout out to anyone and everyone who has shown me love or support when it comes to chasing my dreams. And I'd like to give a shout out to everyone and anyone who has ever tried to slow me down, you're what drives me to push myself harder. A huge shout out to Young Aspect for putting my name out to my man Jesse Jacobsen (host of Smoked Out Battles AB), Chelsie Grobins from Where It's At Entertainment, Mike Simpson from Smoked Out Battles. And to my son for giving me more strength then I could ever ask for. And to both my parents for creating a legend!

“Something out of Nothing”

Featured artist: D. Moe the Artist – "Something out of Nothing"

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist D. Moe the Artist.

How did you decide to become an artist?

D. Moe the Artist: As a kid I have witnessed a lot both domestically and outside of the crib. being raised in 3 different goods but my head in a different place. Coming from a life of domestic violence and corrupted , drug influenced family, i would rap in my head about how my life would be so much better one day. Then I began writing, and realized I was different somehow. It was the thing everyone feels in their body when they head their favorite song. Something I couldn't explain at such a young age.
I always knew, even when everyone would pick on me and crack jokes, that I would be somebody. I've never been the type to fold, whatsoever. So in times of adversity, I find something that fills my vibe and I let loose. My mind is such a loose cannon, and that's a bad combo when there's a lot of built up hatred and anger. Same with someone that's insane, it never helps to mentally be offset. I've been that way since a child. But even thru all the problems in my life I still seem to wake up everyday, & still know that my hard work will pay off… One way or another . I took my time to perfect my craft. Still much work to be put in.

Trhe best advice given to me as an artist was "there's always someone willing to work harder, persist longer, and be better that the best… Who are you gonna be ?"

D. Moe the Artist

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I would have loved to but have never had my name on a flyer. But for those that have seen me perform , love it.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

You got hit 100 licks, I'm tryna get a Grammy – bars worth 100 bricks n I ain't talking Xannies"

D. Moe the Artist

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I recorded my first mixtape when I was 15. I've released 2 mixtapes this year, dating back to Jan 31. "Now You Know" began my mixtape series. Im currently working on 2 mixtapes for August.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would definitely sign but not yet.
Pros: money & connections
Cons: unfair deals, continuity, big pond-little fish theory

Any last words?

Shout to Freak Lik, Meechie, & Lil B. My blood brothers. Shout to Joe Guddah & Ricky 808. && big shout to my CuseTown family, Kind Black, Top Don , the whole 315 to the 864.
Last but not least, shout to the man upstairs for keeping me alive and giving me my talent.

Frosty: The day I wrote and recorded my like my third or fourth track I ever got on. I always new I had a thing for music but didn't quite know how to channel it till I started recording, and now here we are!

Do what you want with your life, but at the end of the day if you really want something bad enough, then you're the only one stopping you from getting it.

Grow.Unite.Live.Life.Young

Featured artist: 504Gully – Grow.Unite.Live.Life.Young

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist 504Gully.

How did you decide to become an artist?

504Gully: I started writing music in the middle of Iraq. I was in the Army in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina ripped through my city. The Army refused to help me connect with my family so I refused to lift another finger for them..They thought that I was crazy and had me in solitary confinement. During that week I belive that God gave me music….which has been my peace ever since.

The best advice given to me as an artist was to stay true to myself and to create from within!! Don't follow the wave..Create your own!!

504Gully

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes I perform live…I just did a show at Strokers in Atlanta in the beginning of June…I have a live concert in East Texas on July 3rd as well. My focus right now is going on tour and expanding my brand.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

#GrowUniteLiveLifeYoung

504Gully

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I am promoting my first Ep called "Filthy Rags" available now on any online music outlet. I also have a new single out called "Get use to me" featuring Slice 9 thats been doing good really well. My past projects are called Real Rap, Real Rap 2, and Love Jones which all can be found on Dat Piff.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would only sign for partnership. I feel as though I'm more gifted than 95 percent of rap artists that are out right now so I couldn't see myself having to wait behind any of them to release a record. The pros of signing to a major label are the benefits that comes with the spotlight of having a major labels name behind you. Networking seems lune it would be easier….But the main con and reason why I'm not interested in signing with anyone is the creative control that gets taken away from the artist..The moment you sign…they try and tell you what to wear, say, and how to look…and ain't nobody got time for that.

Any last words?

I want to give a huge shout out to the people of the city of New Orleans…We have along way to go when it comes to the city's horrible system, but the people of New Orleans possess a strong resilient spirit that can't be broken. I love my people in New Orleans…I don't care for the politicians or city structure at all though.

Let’s Talk..

Featured artist: Awise – Let's Talk..

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Awise.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Awise: I believe this talent chose me, i was born with an amazing gift, not everyone gets a chance at this. Too many people. So Many opinions. Yet, probably more than half our population will never build up enough courage to stand out and be different from the rest. So here i'am choosing to be different, and thats how i became the artist i'am today.

It starts with you, if you dont try you'll never know.

Awise

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I'am currently still an upcoming indepedent artist, so I have not had the opportunity to perform live yet.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

I got the juice that these other artist need, so imma spit a kilo of the crack for the fiends.

Awise

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I have a EP im working on titled "Reflections of A Side Chick". (R.o.A.S.C). I havent released any music from this EP yet and i have not released any music from the past. I do have current Remixes,Covers, and other orginal pieces available to the public via soundcloud.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

yes. The pros of that would be simply "Opportunity" having a better outlet to be better than what i'am now and to be able to reach personal goals with a solid platform underneath me. With any recordlabel nothings ever for certain, so if your going to do it why not do it big? Cons would be that i would be handing over a piece of myself for others to profit from (being tooken advantage of) as well as unwillling/nonpurposefully giving precious information about my personal life for others entertainment. I also might get trapped into something far deeper then i imagine, but like i said if your going to do it' do it big and handle life as it comes, you cant be afraid to succeed.

Any last words?

Definitely shout out to my family for loving me and supporting my decisions in life, they taught me how to be responisble for "Myself". Also Shout out to my circle of people and to all of the skeptical minds that pressed play.

Wild in Brooklyn

Featured artist: Blessd – Wild in Brooklyn

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Blessd.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Blessd: I saw a young lady killing a guy in a rap battle and I was hooked after that.

Learn to take criticism, whether it is constructive or not because if you make it you'll need thick skin.

Blessd

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I am always looking for a chance to perform. I think its vital to connect with people and performing helps with that.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

My favorite would be : "Cuz I almost lost me…tryna save you// now you gon' fuck a million lames tryna catch the feelings I gave you// "

Blessd

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

This is my first full project which is called " FLSD". FLSD stands for Fuck Love Struggle Disloyalty. The exact date of release is still TBD but singles are being released.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Depends on if the contract benefits me and if the label believes in me enough to know I'm not willing to do certain things because I it goes against who I am. The pro's of signing with a major label can be the budget for your project, the experience, and the brand but the con's are because they're a large label if your not mass producing hits you may not be of importance, they can low ball you on your budget if your level isn't up there yet…etc…

Any last words?

Of course there is. Shout outs to Brooklyn, new York city in whole, my family, my friends, my guy Roy-Al whose like my music soulmate that I've known forever and to the almighty for all blessings.

Live From the Isle

Featured artist: KG the Kidd – Live From the Isle

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist KG the Kidd.

How did you decide to become an artist?

KG the Kidd: Well, when I was young I enjoyed writing poetry and along the way I heard about rappers like Common and Tupac writing rhymes like it was poetry with a beat, being inspired so young I was "hey those guys are really no different then me as a kid". I wanted to be an artist so my could put my two passions; Music and Poetry into one which is something you don't hear from the South these days

The best advice given to me was to know that I won't please everyone with my music, but never to give up on my dream no matter how big it is, I've wrote raps since I was 13 and I still live by those words to this day

KG the Kidd

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I haven't given a live concert yet, but I would love to play a live show, it would a dope experience.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

The bigger the scheme, the smaller the team, the longer the green, the realer the dream

KG the Kidd

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I'm just making music with other producers i've met and trying to really get my name out there. I've made a mixtape in the past called "Ivory Knights" and I'm planning on making a mixtape later this summer

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I might, but I would sign to a smaller label over a major label if given the chance. Pros of being in major label to me are that money becomes less of an issue and you work next to some of the biggest names in that label which is dope, cons are that the music becomes theirs not yours, if your selling singles or albums like they expect you to then they'll push you to the back of the line until they want you again. I feel like indie labels are just closer and work more like family business so i'd love a record contract from smaller labels definitely

Any last words?

Shout out to my sisters in college and my Mom and Pops for never giving up on me, I couldn't ask for a better family. and Shout Out to my homies who have faith in me equally as much too.

Who Is Loretta’s Only?

Featured artist: Loretta's Only – Who Is Loretta's Only?

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Loretta's Only.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Loretta's Only: I decided to become an artist after I was inspired by 50 Cent's debut single Wanksta. I saw how much buzz he generated and it made me want to start rapping. Before I always kept up with hip hop music since I use to spend the day at Grandma house after school watching music videos. During lunch period I use to see people beating on the trash can freestyling and that made want to do even more. So I started writing my own raps at the age of 15

You can do anything you put your mind to, if just work hard at it then you will achieve it.

Loretta's Only

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, I have performed live a few times at a open mic, block party, and my class reunion recently. I perform live every chance I get.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

How think your rhymes extraordinary when they simple, That's like saying Miley Cyrus ass got dimples

Loretta's Only

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I am currently working on a album right now that will be out by the end of the year. I also will be releasing my new single called "Amnesic" on July 11th In the past I have released a mixtape and two singles that will be on my upcoming album release.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes I would sign a contract with a major label if the contract is right. Some of the pros would be that you will have plenty of financial support behind you and you will get more exposure to more platforms. Label does most the of the promotion and press releases so the artist could focus on the music more. Cons will be you lose your publishing rights, you might lose creative control, and labels are taking a percentage of what artists make from merchandise and all other business ventures.

Any last words?

Yes, I would like to send a shoutout to Tallahassee/Monticello Flordia da 850! Aka The Big Bend Area. Hip Hop Hysteria, my family and my closest friends. Shoutout to anyone who has been supporting me since day one, salute!

9I speak my know truth6

Featured artist: King Savage – 9I speak my know truth6

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist King Savage.

How did you decide to become an artist?

King Savage: I was intrigued by the genre when it was frowned upon by people in the community I was raised in.In defiance and a way to express myself I began writing and recording.

I was told by my own intuition "Do not listen to others"

King Savage

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I have performed one time in Indonesia. The location was a remote mountain village where my parents taught middle school evangelists children;it was for a youth group. They didn't even know what I was saying. It was a multi language performance that I did with my friends who lived there.

Best punchline you ever wrote?

9"I ravage the beat when I let my flow spew, turn havoc to peace getting residuals"6

King Savage

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I spend my time to show people my "brand" and build a fan base.I write "singles" and put them out.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Originally I would not,but now seeing how many artist are trying to push their music,a label would speed up the process. I know my music stands out way beyond the crowd so a boost would be a great help. Unfortunately if I did my generic sound and style would be changed to fit the label. They would be my booster;really a jump start for something bigger.

Any last words?

Nobody has a negative take on my music so far(most people go silent and ask me"is that you?" in shock.Yet no one is really trying to help me push it;so the shout out goes to me.

It all started with poetry, then from poetry to beats. I would go on YouTube around 12-13 finding beats that go along with my poetry. Turned them into stories. Recorded my first single when I was 13.

Follow your dreams. Always take criticism (good or bad) into consideration. That means someone actually took time out of their day to listen to you. Even if it's just 10 people. Understand that accepting all criticism, creates your craft! – TheHiChild
