Featured artist: Spinz – Straight Outta Oxnard
Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Spinz.
How did you decide to become an artist?
Spinz: I told my 3rd grade teacher that I was going to be a rapper after I heard Public Enemy in 1987 and I never stopped believing for a second that I wouldn´t be. I consider rap music as a full time job and so I spend 10-12 hours a day writing, recording, rehearsing for shows, working new sets for different crowds, mixing and mastering, recording my live band and musicians. I also grew up with some next level artists like Nevamind, Madlib, DJ Babu, Oh No, MED and alot of the early Stones Throw Records roster so I was inspired at a young age to make hip hop my life.
Never stop believing in yourself and your talents, nothing good comes without sacrifice and hard work.
What about concerts? Do you play live?
I have performed over 1,000 concerts in 35 different countries. It has really been a blessing to get to see the world from the music that we started out making in the garage.
Best punchline you ever wrote?
When Dr.Dre said jump I didn´t ask how high, I proved like Em did that white boys can´t jump we fly.
