New Female Rapper From LA Taking Charts By Storm

Featured artist: Kennedy Vie – New Female Rapper From LA Taking Charts By Storm

Below is a short interview with the upcoming underground artist Kennedy Vie.

How did you decide to become an artist?

Kennedy Vie: Well Since I was young I’ve been performing. When I was 5 I Was in ”Little Orphan Annie the Broadway Play” and that’s when I fell in love with performing and being on stage. I’ve done music practically my entire life .. 5th grade I started writing songs and raps–granted they were terrible but that’s where I started. I started producing at 15, and due to unfortunate circumstances I took a break from music for a few years.. Last year (2014) after a very traumatic and life-changing event, I pushed myself to go audition for The Voice. At the time we had very little money so I did crowdfunding on, and to my surprise I raised $700 in less than 2 weeks. A nice chunk of it was from a very dear friend of mine in Australia, Ciaran, and if it weren’t for him pushing me to go to the auditions when I felt like giving up I wouldn’t be here. I made it to the 5th round on The Voice and got cut because I ”didn’t have the look they were going for that season”. I came back home half heartbroken (which going to Denver and coming back home took around 4 days; I took a greyhound bus) and nearly devastated at the reason they cut me for. Fast forward to a couple months after that and I released my first official single ”Why” (available on iTunes, Amazon, and Google play).. Being cut from the voice really pushed me and gave me a boost of confidence oddly. After my pity party, I thought to myself ”well if I made it to the 5th round — passing the first round which is the hardest — then clearly that means something” .. And now here I am on LAs Top 50 and LAs Hot 100. I’m so grateful for all life has thrown my way because without any of it I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Don’t make music for anyone else but yourself. You’re Kennedy Vie, and you’re going to make Kennedy Vie music whether people like it or not. Keep your head up, you’re going to go very far in this business.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

Yes, actually, I do. My first official and legit concert was 1/18/15 at Boardners in Hollywood off of Hollywood blvd and Cherokee. It was a blast. I’ve performed other places as well, go to to see where I’ll be performing next!

Best punchline you ever wrote?

From a rap of mine? That’s really hard. Probably ”I heard you talking shit/ and I’m knowing why you hate/ ’cause you look like Rihanna after Chris got to that face…”

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

Right now I’m working on my first EP/mixtape titled ”She la Vie”. I’m ALMOST done and I’m eager to get this EP published and posted already. I’m working on my 2nd EP at the same time, and knowing how each EP is going to differ from each other is exciting. I’m constantly trying to push the envelope as a female rapper and ESPECIALLY as a white female rapper.. No one wants to take you seriously or give you the time of day being a white female HIPHOP artist… So because of that I’m always trying to make a new song better than the last song, and really look to my music idols and inspirations for strength and courage and relativity.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes absolutely. The pros: living my ultimate dream, validation, pay off. The cons: in certain situations you could be shelved, not promoted, not resigned, or denied music rights.. It’s rare but it’s happened.

Any last words?

Sure! I’d like to give shoutouts to: My Mother and momager.. I wouldn’t be here without all of your unconditional love and support(also you’re the best business partner I could’ve ever dreamed of), My grandparents for keeping me grounded with all of the buzz around me, My Cousin Joellesa for giving me endless support and sometimes tough love, Corey Sims- my best friend (& CEO of 3L clothing) for giving me some of the best advice, life coaching, and such a genuine friendship, Ciaran Scott for helping me get where I am today I wouldn’t be here without you you’re a true friend, Polar Bear for having patience and faith in me… You are literally bad ass, My dear friend Nick Slack- you know why I’m shouting you out, all of the Kennedians out there I love you all and thank you so much, Repsyte for being one of the best and greatest and most talented artists to work with EVER.. You gave me hope when I was losing some.. And last but not least (I save the most special for last), my beautiful Great Grandmother Margaret Orelli that I love and miss dearly, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be as fearless as I am now, and I wouldn’t be alive. ”Vie” in my name is a representation and remembrance of her, always.
